Brazil and the EU member states were supposed to embark on a new trade deal, whereby they could increase the trade of goods and services such as vehicles, machinery, and spirits going from the EU to Latin American countries, and goods and services such as rice and beef been exported to the EU from Latin America.

Recently, however many counties in Europe have had demonstrations and riots in the streets, from farmers, as a result of government legislation to reduce tax brakes in return of car diesel, and less demand because of imports. In light of recent events that have ensued in the agricultural industry, countries such as France have decided to back away from this deal, delaying its signing, to protect their agricultural workers, and its development. This was supported by the Italian government too.

“If we don’t do it now, Brazil won’t make this deal anymore as long as I’m president,” Lula, the President of Brazil said, as a response to this delay in voting.

Although the outcome of this event is not known, the EU countries and Brazil will have a meeting in Brussels soon to negotiate the deal
